Local Chef Honored for His Contributions 
(July 30, 2010) Columbia Rice Home's own Chef Rick Schmitt, CDM, CFPP was recognized at the Dietary Manager Association's (DMA) 50th Annual Meeting and Expo in Chicago, IL. Bringing back to South Carolina the DMA Platinum State Achievement Award, as well as, awards for Membership Initiatives and Government Affairs. "It was an honor to receive the DMA Platinum Award for excellence in leadership on behalf of the South Carolina DMA (SCDMA) in Chicago, as well as the Government Affairs Award for the third year in a row. These awards, as well as others, that SCDMA received show the quality of leadership abilities that Dietary Managers in South Carolina have, and the commitment to their profession that they hold” stated Schmitt. Lutheran Homes Hosts 3rd Annual Wii Bowling Tournament
May 18, 2010 (Columbia) Seven teams from the Lutheran Homes of South Carolina retirement communities competed to win the coveted honor of 'Wii Bowling Champions' at Ebenezer Lutheran Church in Columbia.  Active seniors from across the state donned their wrist straps and used their remote controllers in a frame-by-frame virtual battle for the champion title.  The teams represented residents from each of the Lutheran Homes communities -- Franke at Seaside (Mt. Pleasant), the Heritage at Lowman (White Rock), Rice Home (Columbia), RoseCrest (Inman), and Trinity on Laurens (Aiken)Click here to see coverage of the event from WLTX TV.

Rice Home Chef in our Nation's Capitol
May 1, 2008 (Columbia) Rice Home's own Chef Rick Schmitt represented South Carolina as one of 30 attendees at the Dietary Manager Association's (DMA) "Day at the Capitol" in Washington, DC.  Members of the DMA were in Washington to gather support for legislation that would provide federal recognition of the Certified Dietary Manager credential.  This legislation, if passed, will have significant impact on long-term care facilities.  Read more...
 

Good Shepherd Lutheran Church receives prestigious Community Service Award
April 2008 (Columbia) Columbia's own, Good Shepherd Lutheran Church received a distinguished Community Service Award during the recent South Carolina Association of Non-Profit Homes for the Aging (SCANPHA) Annual Conference.  Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, located on Forest Drive, was nominated by Rice Home for their contributions in serving senior citizens and the communities in which they live through the Operation In-As-Much initiative. Rice Home Chef to serve as South Carolina Dietary Managers Association Officer

March 19, 2007 (Columbia) Savory morsels, nutritional meals and quality ingredients are of the utmost importance to the Rice Home.
